The 2010 OPENING ACT COMPETITION
Spirit 92.9 is searching for Central Minnesota's gifted singers and musicians to be our Opening Act for Kutless on May 7th!
Opening Act is a chance to test your singing skills, or encourage your family and friends to give it all they have! Individuals are encouraged to audition at one of three local auditions, and then progress in the competition. Four finalists will have their songs played on Spirit 92.9 and one winner will perform a three-song set in front of hundreds as our Opening Act!

Official Rules & Guidelines:
1. Opening Act is an individual vocalist competition for contestants age 13 and up.
2. (Sorry, all audition times have been reserved!) Individuals must pre register at www.spirit929.com by 12:00 pm on the day preceding the live audition event that they wish to attend. Each audition is limited to 30 contestants, so please register early. Spirit 92.9 will confirm the registration by 10:00 am on the day of the audition. The contestant must arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the beginning of the audition time. All contestants must provide a government issued photo I.D. for verification. All contestants will have their picture taken at the time of registration. No accompaniment will be allowed. The contestant should prepare one verse and one chorus only. Individuals may only audition once for the competition. Once you have pre-registered for a location, you are only eligible to attend that specific audition. Our panel of judges will select no more than twenty four (24) individuals from the live auditions. Finalists will be notified the day following the competition. The final 24 contestants will compete in a semi-final event on Friday, April 23rd at 7pm at River of Life Church in Cold Spring.
3. The 24 individuals competing at the semi-final event will perform individual break-out solos with an accompaniment track that is no longer than three minutes. The contestant is responsible for securing and editing their own track but may receive assistance from radio staff upon request. Contestants may accompany themselves with an instrument, or may use an instrument with the accompaniment track. At the end of the evening, the field will be narrowed down to the eight finalists. A panel of judges will determine the top six to move to the Top 8 Event, while the audience in attendance will cast their votes to determine the final two finalists to advance.
4. Those eight will compete at the Top 8 Event on Friday, April 30th at 7:00pm at Westwood Church in St. Cloud. These finalists will each perform a song that evening, accompanied by a live band. The song will be a praise & worship cover tune that each contestant will choose from a list provided. The audience in attendance that evening will vote for their favorite vocalists. The four contestants with the most votes will move on to our final round. The other four contestants will be eliminated.
6. The final four will record a professionally-produced demo of their competition song which will be posted on Spirit 92.9's website for on-line voting, as well as being played in rotation on Spirit 92.9 during the remainder of the Opening Act promotional period.
7. Starting May 1st and following for a one week period, listeners will be able to visit www.spirit929.com to hear the demos and vote for their favorite Opening Act contestant.
8. The winner of Spirit 92.9's Opening Act will be announced just prior to their performance on Friday, May 7th at the Kutless concert at 7:00pm at Hallenbeck Hall at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud.
9. That finalist will be our winner and receive the following:
1) The opportunity to perform as the opener for the Kutless concert at 7:00pm at Hallenbeck Hall at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud.
2) The opportunity to have his or her demo played on Spirit 92.9.
Other Rules & Regulations:
By auditioning for Opening Act, contestants grant Spirit 92.9 and all affiliated sponsors, judges and churches the right to use audio/video/photographic likeness and/or content for promotional means.
Contestants may not audition in any other way than at one of the live try-outs.
Contestants age 13 - 17 must have a parent or guardian complete an "Acknowledgement and Acceptance of Opening Act Rules on Behalf of a Minor" form, and the parent/guardian must be present at the audition.
Spirit 92.9 retains the full right and ability to refuse or eliminate any contestant for any reason without explanation or possibility of legal ramification.
Contestants must be at least 13 years of age at the time of the audition.
Any individual with a current signed contract with a record label is not eligible to try-out.
Should a contestant become unable to perform, Spirit 92.9 will determine if a replacement is suitable. If a replacement is required, Spirit 92.9 will have sole control of selecting the replacement.
Spirit 92.9 will provide production of a demo for each of the final four contestants. This demo remains the property of Spirit 92.9. Song choice and selection for these demos will be up to the discretion of Spirit 92.9. Spirit 92.9 will then post each contestant's demo on the website for a two-week listener voting process. This process will be used to eliminate three of the four finalists until one finalist is left as the contest's ultimate winner.
